Saving Earth Is A Important Task

Concerned about the environment and healthy living? Here are five tips on how you can save the earth and live healthy too.

1. Eat like a vegetarian
When you eat a plant-based diet, you stay healthier. You also save the earth. Why? More fruits and vegetables means less packaging. Less packaging means less trash and less production. Going vegetarian also saves the
rainforest from being destroyed for cattle production. This creates less of the ground water pollution generated by grazing and meat production.

2. Walk more
Try to walk or bike nearly everywhere you go. This cuts down on fuel usage to save the planet. It also means less pollution. Guess what? You'll get healthy too and maybe even lose a few pounds. The fresh air will do your
lungs good too. Our homes are breeding grounds for toxins from
carpets, molds and germs. Air your house out while you walk for an
added health benefit.

3. Plant a garden
Eating food from your own garden is a healthy habit. You can control the amount of pesticides and fertilizers in your own food. The fresh produce is
also better for you than that in any store. There is also the benefit of exercising while gardening. Gardening can save the earth too. Why? Less pesticides and fertilizer means less ground water contamination. It also saves on pollution from transporting and producing food.
4. Clean eco-friendly
Using eco-friendly cleaning products keeps chemicals from being washed down
the drain and into our water system. It also keeps the house fume free and keeps your skin from contacting chemicals that can harm you. Cleaning eco-friendly keeps both you and the earth healthy and happy.

5. Pack a lunch
How in the world does this help the environment? By packing a lunch, you eat less fast food. That means no driving to buy lunch on your break. It also means less packaging. Your lunch comes in re-usable containers. Fast food does not. A packed lunch is healthier too. You can control the
ingredients, which means less calories and more nutrients.

Why Physical Sports Are Physical!

Some children and even parents don't truly understand the need for a sports physical. They may go through the motions of getting the procedure only because that's the only way they will be able to play their sport of choice. However, it's important that people realize just how vital a sports physical is and why it's so necessary for it to be mandatory.
One of main reasons that this particular procedure is so beneficial is because it allows medical professionals to check for preexisting medical conditions that could cause serious issues while a child is participating in their favorite sport. Some children may seem healthy on the outside, but it can be a totally different story internally.
Just imagine a child who played basketball without getting evaluated. Everything seemed fine and he excelled on the team and became the go to player. He began scoring more than 20 points per game, leading his team to multiple victories. College recruiters even began noticing him and he became the talk around town. He was in great physical condition externally. Although he was just 17, he had the body of a 21 or 22 year old.
Everything seemed to be going well, until the night of his team's first playoff game. Before the game, he complained of a slight pain in his chest. He brushed it off, until it became more persistent. He went to his coach and told him about the condition and the coach suggested that he sit out the first quarter of the game, to see if things got better. So, with some hesitancy he did just that.
At the end of the first quarter, his team was down by 12 points. Although he still felt a slight pain in his chest, his overwhelming desire to win took over and he decided to tell the coach he was ready to play. He went out on the court and the crowd cheered him on. As he ran down the court to run a defensive play, he found it difficult to breath. After a few steps, he suddenly collapsed to the floor.
He was rushed to the hospital and the doctors found that there were issues with his heart. Because he never had a sports physical, the issue wasn't detected early on. Playing through the pain caused him to put extra stress on his heart, which caused irreparable damage.
Too often this tale becomes a reality for young adults and children who do not receive the attention they need prior to participating in athletics. A sports physical is more important than some people may think. Don't hesitate or go through the motions when being examined. Having a proper evaluation could save you or your child's life.

386 Words on Nature

Nature is an integral part of our lives. But even while we appreciate the blessings she bestows on us, we forget that we are plundering her treasures and thereby denying our children the pleasure of enjoying nature in all her abundance and variety in the future. The beauty of nature has been extolled in the works of poets and artists. When Wordsworth describes the daffodils dancing in the breeze or when our eyes alight on a painting by William Turner, our hearts are filled with an indescribable emotion.

If a mere representation can move us so much, imagine the power of the real thing. If you have seen Massachusetts during fall season when the leaves turn yellow, ochre, and red, you can never forget it in your lifetime.Nature has myriad facets. It keeps changing from season to season, from minute to minute. If the sea was a bright blue in the morning, by noon it has become an emerald green hue. The colors of the sky keep changing throughout the day, from pale pink at dawn to a dazzling blue at mid morning and a bright orange by sunset and purple by twilight. Nature reflects our moods. When the sun shines, we feel happy and hopeful.

When the skies cloud over and the rain falls in torrents, we feel pensive. A balmy moonlit night can awaken the lover in us. Such is the transformative power of nature’s beauty. In the movie, ‘The Silence of the Lambs’, the cannibalistic psychiatrist Hannibal Lector who is in a maximum security prison tells Clarice Starling, the FBI officer, that he wants to be transferred to a facility where he can have a room with a window that looks out on the sky.

Even evil surrenders before the beauty of nature. It has been observed that patients in hospital recover faster if they are in a room with windows that offer a pleasant view. Beyond providing pure pleasure, nature’s beauty can therefore offer therapy for sick minds and bodies. So it is all the more essential that we do our best to preserve it for future generations.

Every time we cut down a tree, every time an oil spill despoils the ocean, let us remember that we are destroying the most precious inheritance we can leave behind for our children.
